My role: I recruit professionals - from junior to lead - for the areas of Wholesale Banking, Risk, Audit and Communication & Brand Experience
What does a successful day look like for you?
On a perfect day, no meeting starts before 9:30 a.m. for me. 😊 Afterwards, I look forward to getting to know exciting new personalities and talents during interviews and hopefully successfully concluding some contracts. In addition to the exchange with future colleagues, my team should of course not be missing.
What is the most important thing for you in a recruiting process - what matters? (or: "what is important for applicants?")
For me, three factors are particularly important. Firstly, communication at the same level. We are confronted with a strong candidate market. That's why I see interviews as a two-way selection process. I not only check whether the candidates fit in with ING and the team, but I also ask them to ask themselves the same question, namely whether we fit in with them.
The second point is enthusiasm for the job. Regardless of seniority, position or personality type, all applicants must bring one thing to the table for me: passion and enthusiasm for what they do. And this can be expressed loudly or quietly.
After all, transparency on both sides is extremely important. I always make it clear where we are in the selection process, by when we can expect feedback and who has what role in the interviews. That way, the applicants always know where they stand. However, I also expect this from the applicants and again ask by when they need feedback, knowing full well that although ING is a great employer, we are not the only players on the market.
What is your personal career tip for young professionals?
In my opinion, you don't need a well-structured five-year plan to be successful. That's why I never ask this question in an interview. 😉Also take the time to briefly reflect on what you were able to take away from your individual stations - regardless of whether this step ended in a promotion or finding professional fulfillment.
Why did you choose ING? What makes the working culture at ING special for you?
ING is not the classic, conservative bank, but instead deliberately does things differently. People work at eye level, cultivate a friendly working atmosphere, and still remain professional and ambitious. This "unbanky" working culture, coupled with the internationality of the bank, is what immediately excited me.
What should you bring to wholesale banking business?
This is difficult to say in general terms, as very different units with individual profiles work together in Wholesale Banking. Introverted analysts are needed here just as much as extroverted sales personalities. But what certainly unites them all is a certain affinity for capital markets and the financial sector in general. I also find all my colleagues to be very determined, with a desire for clear development prospects and modern work conditions without silo mentality. And of course, they are real team players.
What motivates you in your work?
I experience recruiting as a multifaceted and important process for everyone involved: I can advise leads on successfully finding a new team member and inspire applicants for a great new employer and exciting job.
What drives you in life besides your job? What are you passionate about?
I've loved riding since I was a child, there's no better way to relax. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends.
Can you tell us one more personal fact about yourself?
I love music and love going to concerts. I don't go anywhere without my headphones and Spotify. However, I don't stick to one particular genre, neither with my playlist and podcasts nor at concerts with my friends.
