Wholesale Banking

Change to the Executive Board of ING Germany

Frankfurt am Main, 16 December 2021 – Changes to ING's Executive Board in Germany: as of 1 January 2022, Eddy Henning (49) will join the bank's board and will be responsible for Wholesale Banking in the future. He is taking over from Joachim von Schorlemer (64), who will assume the role of Chief Operations Officer (COO) on an interim basis on 1 January 2022.

Also, as of 1 January 2022, the newly created position of Chief Information Officer (CIO) will initially be filled by Nick Jue (56), chairman of the Board of Management for ING in Germany, until a final appointment is made.

Until now, the bank had combined the responsibilities of the COO and CIO into a single board position. By splitting the executive responsibilities, the bank is considering the growing importance of IT and operational processes.

Joachim von Schorlemer has almost 40 years of experience in the banking sector and therefore possesses extensive knowledge of operational banking processes. He will continue to fulfil his role as deputy chief executive.

As has already been announced, Zeljko Kaurin (48), the acting CIO and COO, will leave the bank at the end of the year.

The changes to the Executive Board are subject to approval by the responsible supervisory authorities.

"We are pleased to welcome Eddy Henning, a very experienced manager, to the bank's Executive Board. With his extensive knowledge of Wholesale Banking and thanks to his career within ING, he has access to a great network within the group," said Susanne Klöß-Braekler, Chairman of ING's Supervisory Board in Germany. "We are convinced that by creating separate positions responsible for IT and operations at the board level, we are taking an important step that is appropriate for a leading digital bank."

Eddy Henning previously assumed the position of Head of Wholesale Banking Germany as Chief Representative on 1 August 2020 and has reported to Joachim von Schorlemer since then. In 2018, as Regional Head of Clients & Sectors Asia-Pacific at ING in Singapore, Eddy Henning was responsible for the management of corporate clients and sector finance in the various countries of the region. Prior to that, he worked at Deutsche Bank, where he was responsible for business with international companies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Joachim von Schorlemer has been responsible for ING's Wholesale Banking in Germany as a member of the Executive Board since 1 January 2016. In recent years, the business unit has developed into a key pillar of the bank in Germany. Today, Frankfurt is home to numerous areas of the business, including the global competence centres for Transport and Logistics, Structured Export Finance and Securitization. Joachim von Schorlemer has been Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management for ING in Germany since 2020.
